Short on time to book a transfer? Can’t find your destination?

If you are lucky enough to visit this incredible city, we will be happy to welcome you and offer our English-speaking transfer and taxi services in Venice. Visiting Venice is every romantic's dream. Couples young and not so young flock to this city. Venice, the city of love, is considered the most romantic city in the world. Countless films have been shot here, and countless marriage proposals have been made.

Venice transfers

Venice is extraordinary in every respect. The city is spread across islands and the mainland, and this needs to be taken into account when planning your trip. Let's look at the ways to get to Venice, how much a taxi in Venice costs, and the advantages of booking a transfer to Venice online in advance.

How to get to Venice

Venice airports

Venice has 2 airports:
  • Marco Polo Airport, located in the town of Tessera, 15 minutes from Venice itself.
  • The second most important is Treviso Airport. It mainly serves low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air.

Public transport in Venice

You can get from the airport to Venice by public transport: buses and the Alilaguna water bus. On the mainland part of Venice, Mestre, you can get around by city bus. You can also take a bus from Mestre to Venice. How can you get around the historic island part of Venice? There are several options:
  • On foot. For example, walking from Piazzale Roma, which you can reach by bus, to St Mark's Square takes just over an hour.
  • Vaporetto. The water bus is the main form of public transport in Venice, although Venetians themselves prefer to walk. The vaporetto is your option if you are travelling independently and without luggage.
  • Venice water taxi. If you have come to Venice for a few days and are travelling with luggage, this option is for you. You are unlikely to enjoy an hour-long ride on a crowded vaporetto. And of course, dragging suitcases on foot from bridge to bridge is not the best idea either.
  • Gondola in Venice. Many people think you can get around Venice by gondola, but that is not the case. It is a historic mode of transport used mainly for pleasure rides – much like a horse-drawn carriage elsewhere.

Water taxis in Venice

The main means of transport used by tourists is the Venice water taxi. It is a small boat that carries up to 8 passengers. Locals call it a motoscafo, which means "motorboat". The number of boats licensed to carry passengers in Venice is limited, so a water taxi ride is by no means cheap.

Venice water taxi prices

A water taxi in Venice costs from 60 to 120 euros. For Venice residents, water taxis are much cheaper than for tourists. The night rate is 20% higher than the day rate and applies from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.

How to book a water taxi in Venice

It is best to book a Venice water taxi in advance. If you speak fluent English or a little Italian, you can do this by calling one of the water taxi companies. Or you can book it through our company.

Venice water taxis – what you should know

There are several nuances to consider when booking a water taxi in Venice.
  1. Water taxi drivers in Venice rarely speak fluent English.
  2. Water taxi drivers never leave their boat under any circumstances, not even to meet or escort passengers.
  3. Many hotels in Venice do not have a water entrance, and many of them cannot be reached even by water taxi. So before booking a Venice water taxi, consult us. It is completely free, and you will know how to plan getting around Venice.
  4. There are also hotels located on separate islands that can only be reached by water taxi.
  5. Water taxi drivers do not meet passengers with a name sign. That is why the services of an assistant – a travel escort – are in such high demand in Venice. An assistant is usually booked to meet you at the airport or railway station and accompany you to the water taxi. An assistant is also essential if your hotel has no water entrance. In these cases, without an assistant you simply will not know how and where to find your water taxi.

Transfers in Venice

For trips from the airports and around the mainland part of Venice, there are transfer services. In Italy, such companies are called NCC – Noleggio Con Conducente, which translates as "car hire with driver".

The difference between NCC and taxis in Venice

  • A taxi driver is not allowed to meet you at the airport with a name sign. Only a transfer driver can do that.
  • An NCC vehicle cannot leave its base without a prior booking, whereas a taxi can wait for customers at taxi ranks at the airport and the railway station.
  • Taxi fares within the city are usually low, but trips outside the city limits are charged at a separate rate and cost much more. Taxi fares in Venice are calculated by the meter. The price of a transfer in Venice is fixed, set at the time of booking and does not change.
  • Venice taxis are white cars with a taxi sign on the roof. NCC vehicles are usually black and must display an "NCC" or "Noleggio con conducente" sign on the windscreen. If there is no such sign, the driver is most likely an illegal operator and a scammer. In this case, you can ask the driver to show their licence. Using illegal taxi services in Italy is punishable by law, even if you are a tourist – ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Transfer prices in Venice

The minimum price of a transfer in Venice is 40 euros. A ride from the airport to the city with an English-speaking driver costs 50 euros. A minivan costs a little more. Transfer prices in Venice may also rise in high season, so if you see a price that suits you, we recommend booking right away, as prices may be higher closer to the date. If you are planning to travel from Venice to another city, you should definitely book a transfer. It will be cheaper, more comfortable and more reliable than a taxi.

Tours in Venice

In addition to transfers in Venice, we also offer tours of Venice. We work with the best guides in the city. When you contact us to book a guide in Venice, we know which guide will suit you best based on our clients' feedback. After all, a guide who focuses on the art and architecture of Venice will not suit families with children, and a guide who runs fun tours of Venice for children will not satisfy a visitor who has come to deepen their knowledge of art. And one of our main specialities is day trips and tours from Venice. For example, you can book the following trips with us:
  • a full-day trip to the Alps, especially welcome in the summer heat
  • a sightseeing trip from Venice to Verona and Lake Garda
  • wine tours
  • shopping trips
  • a transfer from Venice to Florence for a sightseeing tour
  • a tour of medieval towns
  • a trip to the nearest beach resort
All this is possible quickly and comfortably when you book a transfer in Venice.
